Why does body hair stop growing at a certain length, but the hair on your head just keeps growing?
I was just wondering. The hair anywhere on the body but the head will grow to a certian length and then stop growing. How does it know to stop growing? Or does it fall out once it reaches a certian length? How is it that the hair on the head can be grown to nearly any length, but body hair cannot?
DNA in your scalp tells hair follicles to grow continuously. However, DNA in skin that is not on your scalp tells hair follicles to grow until a certain tension (weight of the hairstrand) is felt by the follicle itself. That’s why arm hair, for example, stops growing at a certain length. Just different instructions given to hair follicles, that’s all.
