How can I stop my social anxiety? Is this anxiety when I’m in Public places and around crowds harming my body?
I getting nervous twitches in my palm between my thumb……occasional pins and needles and racing pulse and light head during social anxiety episodes. I’m OK in my comfort zones….but I’m afraid this anxiety is wrecking my body. Does the body and nerves recover from episodes of social anxiety? What should I do?
It does not harm your body. People with anxiety disorders like this often say ”my heart was pounding, i thought i was going to have a heart attack”, your pulse has to drop very low for a heart attack. What your body is doing is over-compensating for a percieved physical threat by producing lots of adrenaline, making yournervous system hyper-sensitive and your muscles ready for fight or flight. It is a normal healthy reaction that is key to the survival of any species. I have social anxiety and its nearly gone now thanks to CBT. Get yourself a good, qualified CBT therapist and you WILL be free from social anxiety if youre willing to put in a lot of effort. The best self help book on this, endorsed by medical associations all over is ‘overcoming shyness and social anxiety” by Gillian Butler. If your in any way serious about overcoming this problem buy the book!! Your not doomed to live your lifelike this, its just a bump in the road so do yourself a favour and look into CBT. You won’t regret it, seriously
